FAQs

Please refer to the FAQ section below for any questions you may have. If you can’t find what you are looking for, or you’re still unsure on anything, just give us a call – we do love a chat – or send us an email at info@yogauniverse.co.uk.

What class should I try first?

We have many different classes at Yoga Universe and we find the best way to figure out which is the best style for you is to just try out as many different classes as possible.  There should be no ego in yoga (ignore all those posers on Instagram!) so if you select a class that is physically tough and you struggle with the postures, then that’s fine, you can rest as much as you want and join back in when you’re ready.  Some will love the challenge, if not, then try a more chilled out class or ask about the beginners programme.  Sometimes you will choose a class depending on how you feel on the day.  That is the magic of yoga.

Do I need to bring anything with me?

You should bring a yoga mat (although we do supply these should you forget yours or not have one of your own).  You will need to wear comfortable fitness clothing and bring a towel if you are doing Hot Yoga.  A water bottle is advisable too although we do have water freely available.

Can I attend if pregnant?

While everyone is different we’d strongly recommend you seek medical advice before exercising while pregnant. Get in touch before booking your first class to discuss and do let the instructor know of your pregnancy when you arrive for class.

Do I need to be fit and flexible to do yoga?

In short, no.  Not only do we cater for all abilities, but we are actively trying to create a haven where everyone can feel welcome and comfortable. We encourage all abilities to give it a go! Remember every expert was once a beginner. When you arrive for the first time we will talk through the elements of the class so you know what to expect and if there are any difficult moves in a class, our teacher will always give an alternative for those less advanced.

What do I do when I arrive at the studio for the first time?

Parking is available on site or on the road to the side so that’s one stress out of the way – some of us hate parking! If you park on the road you will need to walk around to the entrance on Atherton Road and we are behind Laurel House – if you have been to the site before we are in the building that was the café.  On entrance to the studio we ask that you remove your shoes – there are shelves to place them.  You can leave your socks on if you wish but we ask that you remove them for the class for health and safety reasons – don’t want any slips.  Yoga socks with grips are, of course, fine.  You will need to check in with our reception desk to the right as you walk in.  Our community area is to the left of the reception desk and here you can store any valuables and hang up your coat.  Refreshments are also available.

Is there a minimum age requirement?

We welcome anyone in the studio aged 16 and over.  If you have younger children look out for our children’s yoga workshops or email for information – info@yogauniverse.co.uk.

Do you offer corporate sessions?

We are very passionate about this as we know how stressful work life can be.  We would be more than happy to visit your place of work (as long as you have a space for yoga) so send us an email – info@yogauniverse.co.uk – and we can make date.

Do you offer any fitness classes other than yoga?

Yes! Our fitness instructors design strength and conditioning workouts which compliment the yoga classes.  We would recommend at least one a week in addition to your YOU Flow routine.  The workouts will have you sweating but the improvements you see in your fitness, strength and mobility will be worth it.

Do you offer small groups or one to one programmes?

Yes we do.  Email info@yogauniverse.co.uk for more details.

Is there any studio etiquette we should be aware of?

Yes please.

  • Please aim to arrive at 15 minutes before class to give you time to remove your shoes, check in, hang up your coat and find your space on the mat. It’s always good to have a little moment on your mat just with your thoughts before the class starts.
  • The studio is our little haven, so please make sure your phones are on silent, and be mindful of your volume.
  • Please try to stay for the full duration of the class. If you have to leave promptly at the end of a class it’s best to place yourself as close to the exit as possible, and notify the teacher of your timing so we know you are ok.
  • We know you are kind so if you see someone new to class, say hi, and make them feel welcome.
